The Rogers Lab at the University of Calgary

We research fundamental questions in ecology, evolution and genomics in our goal to understand the biological mechanisms that contribute to the ability of populations to persist and adapt in the face of rapid environmental changes.

BAMFIELD MARINE STATION

As Director of the Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre since 2016, I oversee a marine station with 200 acres of rainforest land, 4km of coastline and 27 structures that includes a world-class seawater delivery system, research vessels and 3000 sq metres of lab space. A team of 25 staff support safe and reliable access to ocean environments to hundreds of researchers and students every day of the year. Learn more about what we do here.

CFI EMPOWER

(EMPOWER) Ecocosms and Mesocosms Predict Ocean Weather and Ecological Response - is a program based at the BMSC with impact over Canada's Northeastern Pacific Ocean region. Learn more about collaboration opportunties here and see the data from the PEARL Lab here.

Land Acknowledgement

We respectfully acknowledge and pay tribute to the traditional territories of the people of the Treaty 7 region in Southern Alberta, which includes the Blackfoot Confederacy (comprising the Siksika, Piikani, and Kainai First Nations), the Tsuut’ina First Nation, and the Stoney Nakoda (including the Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Goodstoney First Nations). The City of Calgary is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta (Districts 5 and 6).

The University of Calgary is situated on a site traditionally known as “Moh’kins’tsis” to the Blackfoot, Wîchîspa to the Stoney Nakoda, and Guts’ists’i to the Tsuut’ina, land Northwest of where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. On this land and in this place we strive to learn together, walk together, and grow together “in a good way.”
